The Sponsor(s) and the U.S. Government are the parties to the I-864 contract. The intending immigrant who has become a lawful permanent resident is the third-party beneficiary.

The LR is not a party to the I-864 Contract and has no authority to settle a contract dispute.

You can withdraw the I-864 Affidavit of Support before the intending immigrant becomes an LPR. After that the contract may only be terminated by operation of law.

When you sign and submit the I-864 Affidavit of Support on behalf of an intending immigrant you are agreeing to support that immigrant at 125% of the federal poverty guideline until the contract terminates by operation of law.
